I think the “Last Jedi” backlash you mention had a lot to do with it. That movie was just awful and, quite frankly, insulting. I saw the Solo movie on Netflix and it was an OK popcorn flick. Nowhere near as bad as Last Jedi.
Yeah, by the time fans realized what Disney had done with TLJ, they had already spent their money on the tickets to see it, so the next best way to register their disappointment was to skip seeing Solo.

“Solo” was okay. I finally saw it and I found it entertaining, not great, but not that bad.
