As long as I've been watching solar activity (much via FR for 20 years) there has been discussion of low sunspot activity. Me thinks the 11 year cycling was non-existant last time which is why there has been virtually no warming for 18+ years.
I'd put money on cooling before I'd bet on warming. We'll know if and when solar activity perks up.

We have seen increased activity during winter when we have experienced unseasonably warm weather.
