Nice video of Japanese perspective on how 15 minutes changed the world.
The music was great, for sure.
What did you see? I often wonder what was sitting right off the island.
Their constant Banzai charges contributed greatly to our chewing them up.
Basically a sappy chick flick with some action scenes. Certainly not in the top 10 of war movies, probably not in the top 50.
My Father-in-Law was in the Philippines. They were subject to a Banzai charge. He said when they first saw them attacking with bayonets fixed, he got a sick feeling in his stomach.
They had enough fire power that the Japanese never got to them. Still I bet it was scary.
If there was a single decisive battle of the war, it was Stalingrad.
You could probably say the same for In Harm’s Way.
Agree. As much as I liked Heston, the whole thing with his Son and the Japanese girl was a bit irritating.
I bet he did.We all would.
Agreed.
I think Stalingrad showed that the Russians were just too powerful for the Germans.
The Russians had terrible losses but they could afford them.
A couple of Japanese aircraft, don’t remember what they were. Also parts of a ship from a ways off. Lots of sharks so my attention was split.
You can walk for probably a mile from the island to the reef. Except for the channel where the ships came into dock. You wouldn’t want to be in the water there. Large sharks were in there. One of our guys killed a 12 ft Tiger shark with 2 hits from a bang stick. Thing was big enough to eat most of me in one bite. All I could think when I saw it was “That sob had to reload to hit it again!”
The Coral Sea was where the Japanese were first stopped
“Barbarians at the gate” was a great movie about Stalingrad. Centered around two opposing snipers. But had some scenes of Russian charges that , if true, were pretty amazing. Not enough weapons for the troops so they went in teams of two soldiers and when the lead guy with the rifle got shot the guy hanging on to his belt picked it up and continued forward. Anyone who turned around in retreat was shot by Russian troops.
Never liked that guy who played the son, always looked ready to cry.
One of Hollywoods best movies (Midway). Saw it in the theaters in SENSURROUND! Were we just better than the Japanese or just luckier?

At that time, being very early in the war for us, the Japanese had the best fighter in the world, carrier crews and pilots were thoroughly trained and battle hardened. So, to answer your question, you might say it was luck or you might say it was the hand of God. We had a other things in our favor as well. We had broken the Japanese communication code. Thereby, we knew their plan. Also, the Admiral of their carrier battle group made a couple of unrecoverable tactical errors. Lastly, our carrier pilots, although green, did not lack in courage.
That was excellent, thank you.
Yes but the music and narration is without equal.
Excellent video presentation.
