Yes. Blood pressure meds and booze do not a good combination make. High blood pressure causes the heart pump harder at times to keep the blood flowing. That strains the heart and arterial walls. Alcohol causes the whole process to become much harder for the coronary system to function. At the very least one or both of them could have had a stoke but at least they would still be alive. There is/was obviously more going on here.
Why go to the beach on a tropical island when you can have a perfectly good first world weekend in Chicago?

I would have written it as:
“American couple dies of respiratory failure in Dominican Republic hotel”
Interesting story. I go to AI’s 2-3x/year, and never heard that story. Never heard of that resort either, and I stayed about a mile away from it a few years back.
