I just tried to buy some health insurance and gee whiz, I am not allowed! How about that? It seems in New York you can only buy it in November due to the Obamacare enrollment mandate. I just got off the phone with a broker who told me. What kind of insanity is this? So if I get some disease or severely injured from now till November I'm basically screwed. Isn't government intervention wonderful?
Google "new york buying health insurance outside open enrollment" to find ways. One source found is "How to enroll in health insurance outside of Open Enrollment." Here are the "qualifying life events" (note the last one):
Lost job-based coverage: This applies to you even if you voluntarily left your job or decreased your work hours. It also applies if your job-based coverage does not meet current standards for value and affordability.
Lost coverage through an individual plan: This category includes losing your coverage due to circumstances like moving or no longer being a student. You dont qualify under this category if you stopped paying premiums, gave up on paperwork, or voluntarily withdrew from your individual plan.
Lost coverage through a family member: You qualify under this category if you had health insurance through a family members policy and lost it due to death, divorce, or no longer being a dependent. Or if your family member lost coverage causing you to lose it as well.
Changed your income: An increase in income may mean that you no longer qualify for Medicaid or premium-free Medicare Part A. A decrease could mean that you now qualify for Medicaid, which allows year-round enrollment.
Changed your household size: Have you gotten married, added a child to your household, or had a child move out? You can enroll in a new insurance plan within 60 days of this event.
Changed your citizenship status: If you just became a U.S. citizen or have recently been released from incarceration, you can start over with new insurance.
Encountered exceptional circumstances: The Marketplace recognizes that life events are sometimes hard to categorize. If you experienced one of these types of events you may be eligible to enroll during SEP.
I grew up in NYC and there is not enough money on this planet to ever get me to live there again, EVER. It’s truly the leftist a-hole capital of the world, it really is. The people there get me sick to my guts. Go there as a tourist if you must, but by all means avoid living there as much as possible. The last year before I moved, my blood pressure was through the roof. Just to give you an idea what that sewerhole is like, around 15 years ago I was eating in a Japanese restaurant with my parents and we were talking about the Clintons and this leftist at the next table didn’t like what we said and proceeded to pour a drink over my head and knock stuff off our table while going on a rant about GW killing retarded black men. My mother almost had to go to the hospital from nerves, I thought she was having a heart attack. I wanted to kill that guy, but that’s pretty much the kind of leftists you will run into regularly there. They have a blatant communist as Mayor who they reelected, enough said.
OK thanks, the thing is I drive a truck and haven’t had insurance for a while. But I’ll see if I can get around it. A friend of mine had a catastrophic injury and he has no insurance so that pretty much kicked me in the butt to get moving on this.
Are your folks near another state? NJ, PA, Conn? How long do you expect to stay?
Try a health sharing outfit. It’d s lot cheaper and you can sign up any time. Christian Healthshare is one. Liberty Healthshaare is another. There are several more. Search healthshare. My daughter and her family do this as do more and more of the people I know.
Went up there a few years back and toured the Ommegang brewery followed by a visit to Cooperstown. Cooperstown felt like a step back in time. Just loved it. Very nice scenery.
I use to work for Poland Spring water which was quite a while ago then began driving a truck a few years ago. It’s been years since I’ve had insurance, pretty stupid of me, I was paying cash for check ups and dental but I woke up to the fact I better get it. A friend of mine needs an operation and he has no insurance, he is utterly screwed so I don’t want to end up in that situation.
Come! We could use the conservative vote!
Does your truck policy carrier offer a health plan?
Wow that’s an idea! I can buy that anytime? And they cover catastrophic injuries? That’s what I’m most concerned about. Physicals, and basic tests I’ve been paying out of my own pocket but should I ever get into an accident and I’m in a coma or I get some bad disease I would be screwed so I want coverage for that.
No, I drive for a small farm doing deliveries all up and down the upper east coast, from New Hampshire, Mass, NY, Penn, NJ. They pay very well which is why I do it.
I have a cousin in Pennsylvania. Won’t they find out if I put a fake address? I have no idea how long I’ll be here
That’s why I moved from Seattle to Rural KY. I feel like I’ve gone back in time 50 years, in a lot of good ways!
That sounds really good. Any idea what it would cost someone single? I’ll definitely call them though. I had no idea Obamacare was so messed up. Thanks John McCain for voting down repeal and replace! Freakin slimebag, and that guy got his healthcare 100% free.

It’s unreal isn’t it. DeBlasio is corrupt as hell, he does absolutely nothing and that leftist is defending him. That whole city is one huge insane asylum.
MAYBE this site will help. OTOH, wasn’t DiBlasio promising health care for everyone in NYC?
You might have to wait until open enrollment period.
Actually this is one of the capitulations to Republicans to prevent people from waiting until they are sick to buy insurance...
But usually there are exceptions, moving, or major life changes.
So dont lay this one soley on Democrats...
