“Stupid and cruel. Social media really brings out the worst in some people.”
Totally un harmful.
Cruel is a bit over the top.
A jail sentence, if this is all he did, seems crazy.
Used to be called a practical joke until this happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFTSt-A2Cls
“Mmmm. Toothpaste Oreo.”
I always thought those Peppermint Patties tasted like chocolate-covered toothpaste. And then some comedian a few years ago made the same comparison .. He stole my joke! My wife started laughing because I had been saying that for decades.
Homeless guy should sue youtube.
It’s one thing to pass by homeless people who are down on their luck or have some mental illness. It’s another to kick them while they’re down by playing practical jokes on them for clicks online. The punishment sounds overly severe, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t stupid and cruel. Sad to see that one of our own here thinks this is ok.
Spanish TV is filed with these prank shows and they leave me nonplused: They are only funny to idiot with a creepy streak
I stand with the business owner who squirted ammonia on a foul smelling, foul mouthed vagrant who refused to move from his business stoop.
Good. It’ll give him some time to reflect on what an asshat he has been.
It is not for you or me to judge how this man who was deliberately poisoned spends this somewhat just compensation for what he was put through. In fact, I think he should have gotten more, a whole lot more.
You seem to have the same idea as the person who did this evil act, this guy was insignificant, unimportant, a bum. So therefore if he suffers so what, it is okay to poison him because he has nothing and he has no one. And because of that, he should not be compensated for what this sadistic murderous person did. Is that what you believe?
What if this amount of toothpaste had killed him? This is a homeless guy, not in the peak of health, malnourished, immune impaired, therefore more likely to suffer ill consequences from ingesting this much tooth paste, than a healthy middle class person with good nutrition, healthy environment, and regular medical follow-up. Furthermore, he has the right not to be held up for ridicule by people who are in a higher station in life. Are you this much of a barbarian?
Should the man who intentionally performed a homicidal act just get community service because this was a homeless guy?
This was an evil thing to do to anyone, especially someone as defenseless as this poor man. The guy who did this deserves what he got, in fact, I think he should have gotten a lot more. And I don’t think $22,000 is nearly enough compensation for this man for being singled out and being put through this. I think the guy who did this lose everything he has for this victimization of the poorest of the poor, and yes the victim deserves the payment.
If someone did this to me I would have him prosecuted criminally and sue him civilly, and so would you. Why shouldn’t this poor man be denied his human and legal rights? Do you believe in a two-tiered justice system?
In a just civilized society, if you hurt the helpless, you will pay for it, and if you are helpless and have been hurt, there is equal justice for you too.
I knew a guy who kept bars of soap in his car and when he came up on a homeless person standing by the road asking for money he would throw soap at them.
I also used to see some people that carried canned goods and would hand them those. Thought that was a pretty good idea.
I’ve also seen a homeless guy offered a job. He had a “will work for food sign”. His answer to the job offer was F.U.
It was a really mean, nasty thing to do to someone.
BUT.....
There are people who commit really SERIOUS crimes
who don’t do 15 months behind bars.
Actually it simply reflects the worst in people. When shows like Tom Green and JackAss were drawing audiences on Cable, decades ago, we were lost. A sane and moral society would have tuned out.... Now those are tame by comparison to crap on the airwaves and internet today.
Our Society and Culture no longer reaches for greatness... we slum for stupidity and insipidness.
As someone once said,
"The greatest minds of our generation are not trying to improve the world, they are busy trying to figure out how to get you to click on more ads"
