There are still great unknowns in our physical understanding of the universe. Lots of photons hitting our eyes and telescopes, a bit of parallax from our yearly orbit, but space is mostly very, very empty. Partly a good thing, else Fermi would not have existed to put forth his famous paradox “Where are they?”.
But also very lonely in the grand scheme of things, unless and until we learn how to get to, say, the space near Alpha Centauri within a single lifetime, at a cost less than the annual GDP of California. Perhaps science and/or G-d will assist us, given time and effort on our part.

I suggest a gradual approach. Let’s get an interplanetary civilization going. Then an interstellar civilization. Then an intergalactic civilization. Then an interuniversal civilization. This should keep us busy for a while. The damn commies are gonna set us back 10,000 years though.
