You know what would reduce the number of deaths? Require every employee to carry a gun. You cannot prevent a person from going nuts, but you can prevent them from killing as many as they might otherwise. Knowing they would be perforated after their first or second victim would be a deterrent to some.
Ban guns and the nut will use a different weapon. But if everyone else is armed, it wouldn’t matter, the attacker would be just as dead.

Problems:
Insurance companies would be expected to cover workplace shootings (and big bucks settlements if a bystander was hit).
Training costs.
Present liability laws.
Anti-gun judges and managers.
