This is already a street you don't want to travel after dark. IMHO the MLK moniker will have a negative effect.

“Waller grew up on Cottonwood Road. She believes the new name will change the areas negative reputation.”
Yeah, MLK Blvd sounds soooo much wealthier...

On a TV documentary years ago about drug addicts, a long-haul trucker was being interviewed. He said that every town has an MLK somewhere, and that’s where he headed to in strange towns if he needed a fix.

So now any businesses on this street will incur unnecessary expenses to change their business cards, brochures, labels, whatever. I would imagine any business entity on that street already runs at a razor-thin profit margin. This is just another way that CA has its citizens’ best interest at heart. /s

Yeah, because renaming the northern part to MLK really changed that area. hahahah

This strikes me as being almost magical-type thinking that seems to be prevalent amongst the left. Our local school board decided to change the name of the Alternative school to “The Academy” in the hopes of “changing the negative reputation”.
There is another thread about Gillette’s ad about “a dad teaching his transgendered son how to shave” when in reality he is teaching his mentally-ill daughter how to shave her facea task she normally wouldn’t have to tackle until she was in her 70s.

They do realize that cotton doesn’t grow on cottonwood trees, right? Maybe they got their information from The Three Stooges’ version of “Dixie”:
“Way down south in New York City
The cotton grows on the trees so pretty
On the trees?
On the trees.
In the South?
South Brooklyn!”

It is very considerate of them to warn visitors which part of town is the most dangerous.
