Carter Page was not a spy. He was an FBI asset that helped them catch actual Russian spies before Donald Trump ever made the announcement that he was running for president.
That is the official version. But notice a few things. First, who is Carter Page? He’s an Annapolis grad and a former Navy officer. He speaks fluent Russian. I can’t help notice that he has the resume of a CIA Moscow station chief and interestingly enough he spent several years in Moscow. Then shortly after he returns home he coincidentally becomes involved in an FBI counterintelligence investigation. Then a year later he is caught up in a second unrelated counterintelligence investigation. Then just when Brennan needs someone inside the Trump campaign he gets himself into the Trump campaign. But even if he was a plant they are t going to expose him. If he were exposed it would put the lives of everyone he knew in Moscow at risk. Notice though that they did not lay a perjury trap for him like they did for everyone else.
