I wouldn’t be so quick to put together such a panel these days. First off, there’s the issue of whether the being is even a baby human or not and, second, probably some percentage of these folks would say that the child would have to make that choice itself, rather than assigning a gender.

Yes, our society is THAT f’d up. If I was the commander of an alien exploratory force looking for intelligent life and I came across this planet right now, I’d order the entire planet sterilized, down to at least 5 miles below the surface.
