Having been on the mountain I can assure you, they don’t bury cedar climbers. In most cases, they stay where they lay.
Your granddad was wise. Sometimes, when my children are acting like absolute fools, I wish they’d hurt themselves just badly enough to learn never to do (whatever) again, but not badly enough to need an emergency room visit.

What they actually do on Everest to the dead was irrelevant to my statement.
It’s getting to be as dangerous as a cruise, where you normally lose, what, 30 or 40?

He said that to me when he was driving me to the ER. I was bleeding all over the front seat of his brand new Chrysler Imperial, a 1965 if I remember right. I’d climbed a tree using a cinder block as a step up. The predictable happened and I fell landing right on the block laying my head open.
Once my head was stitched up I had to clean all the blood up.
I miss my granddad terribly these days.

I had a high school classmate that almost died on Everest and I have no desire to follow in his shoes. Beck Weathers was left for dead twice and his climbing mate’s body is still up there.
My oldest son broke his femur skateboarding last year; he was 24. The first thing I said to him after his surgery was, “Bill, you’re too old for skateboarding!” “I know!” he moaned. (Miracles of modern medicine: he’s running marathons again only a year later.)
I miss my father a lot. His birthday is only a few days away. That’s why I’m so annoyed at the late Mr. Cash.
I remember from reading “Into Thin Air” that there is a fairly narrow window for climbing Everest around this time of year. Too early, and the weather is too cold. A couple of weeks from now, and the winds shift, also making the climb impossible. Hence, the heavy traffic this time of year.
Sorry, but you know damned well you are putting your life at risk by trying to climb this mountain... Its sad, but these will not be the first or last to die doing so....
Just imagine how much better the world would be, if the people who invested the money and time to try to climb Everest, just to claim they did it, invested that energy into something that would help humanity, where we would all be today?

I found the photo of hundreds of climbers waiting in line to get on the peak to be really interesting. Obviously, its single file going up - but is there any room on the path for people going down?
REAL MEN go up the North Face.
Are all the tourist climbs still being done by the South Route? Or has China opened up the approach from Tibet again?
All that I can say is that if he had a wife and family that loved him - he’s a dick.
