Alabamas at it again. According to a report from AL.com, Alabama Public Television chose not to broadcast the Season 22 premiere of Arthur, which included the same-sex wedding of beloved elementary school teacher Mr. Ratburn.
Rather than airing the episode as scheduled, APT Director of Programming Mike McKenzie opted to show a rerun from a previous season.
Parents have trusted Alabama Public Television for more than 50 years to provide childrens programs that entertain, educate and inspire, Mckenzie tells the site. More importantly although we strongly encourage parents to watch television with their children and talk about what they have learned afterwards parents trust that their children can watch APT without their supervision. We also know that children who are younger than the target audience for Arthur also watch the program.
The episode, titled Mr. Ratburn and the Special Someone, is still available to stream on PBS official site. Click here to check it out.
But as AL.com points out, this isnt the first instance of APT taking a stand against the Arthur-verse. In 2005, it chose not to air an episode of Arthur spinoff Postcards From Buster, which included several children with lesbian moms.
Your thoughts on APTs (not entirely shocking) decision to ban this episode? Drop em in a comment below.
Alabama, the new conscience of America.
What about Mr. Slave?
I’m thinking Alabama would be a nice state to retire to.
What is this about? Who is Arthur? Why do they just start talking about something and assume anyone knows what it is about? If this is a Television show on Alabama Public Television, shouldn’t the title of the article start with identifying the name of the program?
Arthurs an aardvark or an anteater in a show meant for preschoolers. They have his teacher marrying another dude in an episode. You paid for it cause its PBS trash.
“Sweet Home Alabama”
LOLOL!!! maybe he’s tied up in the bridal suite
Yep. States’ Rights. Good for them.
And... public television? Tax-funded television? Why should they not listen to the representatives of the people who are PAYING for it?
Good for them!
Turn it up!
Wow, always been proud of home state Mississippi for trying to keep out liberal junk, but Alabama is currently leading the charge. You’re doing good, Alabama!
Wow! And again, in just the span of a few days, I'm proud to have been born in Ala-damn-bama! Please pardon my pronunciation in French. Gadsden to be precise.
Gadsden and Rome, Georgia, are the largest cities in the triangular area now defined by the interstate highways between Atlanta, Birmingham, and Chattanooga. And by coincidence, my parents when I was only nine months old moved our family to Rome, GA where we lived until I was twelve. My family came from Birmingham where both sets of Grandparents lived and I have lived twenty miles to the north of Atlanta for close to forty years. The Stars Fell on Alabama, but Georgia has always been On My Mind.
Winning! We must all fight back in whatever way against all of the tyranny being forced upon us.

That’s right! RTR!
Send Mike a note to let him know you support him. Lord knows he could use it. He’s getting skewered today.
