The EU needs Switzerland far more than Switzerland needs the EU.

If the Swiss vote for these restrictions, it will just be the beginning. The EU will not rest until they are disarmed.
Switzerland has done very well with decentralized defense. They have maintained their independence and neutrality as the rest of Europe has torn itself to pieces, over and over again. Why would the Swiss want to jump aboard that Crazy Train?
A little inconvenience at the border is a small price to pay to maintain control of your own country. In fact, given what is happening in the rest of Europe, a little border control is probably a good thing.
