Under the law now, you do not have the right to travel. Settled case law.
Even on your own land the EPA or some such can come in and make parts off limits, or if you live in a river bottom the Corp.
I miss the world I grew up in.

Actually, right now, they seem to be most interested in selling you back your old rights through fees for TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry. Global Entry is worth the money, but as a US citizen in good standing it can be argued that you deserve the
presumption of Global Entry rights and privileges rather than being forced to prove you qualify and then having to pay for them.
Singapore has had Global Entry-type procedures for a long time - their citizens and permanent residents just swipe their passports on a reader and walk right in.

Just the beginning: the push for self-driving cars has an end point - complete government control of all movement.
Once automation gains a market, the government institutes regulation for control of the different systems for safety and uniformity. The automation will maintain safe separation and obviously maintain speed limits. You will follow specified routes and at the regulated speeds.
A short time later, further controls will limit the amount of fuel expended (carbon released) and trips longer than allowed will be denied.
If your route is the same as another, you will be required to share the trip.
Welcome to the future.

I wonder if this democrat-supported influx of undocumented immigrants, criminals and terrorists is to provide an excuse for requiring random checkpoints and in-country passports.
