The purity of a person’s heart can be quickly measured by how they regard cats.

That is definitely NOT the litmus test for a person's heart.

Agreed.
<=1 cat = best
2 cats = compensation for something
>3 cats = crazy territory

I’m a someone-else’s-cat person. I admire them from afar.

When you hear a cat purr, it may sound like the cat is happy.
This is impossible, since the only emotion a cat feels in contempt.
Purring is the sound of the cat’s heartbeat. It speeds up when you pet it, because it senses that you are close enough to be attacked.

Oh, so true. I was laughing my head off yesterday after running into my home for a moment after spending 2-3 hours outside working in the garden: two cats were posted by the door, regarding me with the feline versions of "Oh, you decided to show up?" and "You abandoned us!", accompanied by a plaintive chirp from one.

It's really true that you don't own cats; they own YOU. Every time I had to come back into the house to get something while gardening, my cats were right by the door and were all excited until they realized I was leaving as soon as I grabbed another garden item. Their response was to fight over who got to sit on my keyboard and make it impossible to navigate the web. Not to worry; they got treats and lots of petting when the gardening was done.

I like dogs and cats.

But I live in the country on a cattle farm. Of my last six cats, a couple stayed a year or two but all of them would just disappear and never show back up for their food. Inexplicable.

They were good at catching rats, birds, moles and squirrels but none of them were very friendly. You know, the kind that purrs, rubs up against your leg and sits in your lap.

Currently, I'm down to one dog and no cats. Waiting for the next cat.
