The dam is ok. The repaired / replaced spillway is performing just fine. Just another nut job.
Sheriff Honea came out with a statement yesterday saying that based upon his questioning of everyone and evaluations up at the damn dam that for now he is not worried. If things change he will not hesitate to let us know. He set forth an evacuation before and won’t hesitate to do it again.
B) There's about 9.5 feet of headspace in the dam right now, that equates to about 7% of the overall capacity.
Expected inflows is about 35,000 CFPS, expected outflows through the Hyperion Plant is 25,000 CFPS, expected outflow into the Feather River is 25,000 CFPS.
The spillway has already demonstrated use at 65,000 CFPS, maximum spillway flow in the past using the same design has been 295,000 CFPS; since it is nearly 5 times as thick at most places now, I don't expect there’d be much of a risk of large outflow.
Holy Californicate. That dam/spillway is going to be seriously tested.
I found this guy Juan with the blancolirio channel on youtube doing updates on Oroville reconstruction last year and have been following his updates every since. Here is his most recent Oroville update https://youtu.be/D-kpNw7PpeE
He is a great citizen reporter trying to counter all these people trying to scare everybody for youtube hits about this dam. He has a ton of videos he did showing reconstruction and was present for many of the construction meetings too. He did a great job keeping up with this story and countering the scaremongers!
