Isn’t this how World War II in the Pacific started?
Isnt this how World War II in the Pacific started?

Not even close.
Japan had decided and started to build up for war against the US long before the embargoes that came from the Rape of Nanking.
The embargoes are just an excuse the Blame America Firsters constantly pump out.
China is spending it’s surplus trade money building a larger more modern military. Japan built up prior to WW2 partially by trading with the USA. So yeah, kinda the same but why make it easy on them?

Yes, but no one is going to sneak up on Hawaii today!

Oil & Steel embargoes that time...
If Germany hadn’t bombed Pearl Harbor...
You mean, Japan engaging in intellectual property theft and US congresspeople taking tons of bribes in order to ensure trade flows in only one direction? Then Roosevelt comes along and decides that’s stupid policy?
Not that I recall.
The oil embargo on Japan for some of the stunts they were pulling in China, however, was their ‘provocation’.
I laugh whenever the Japanese were depicted as being otherwise honorable, but a victim of bad timing. Especially after the Rape of Nanking.

No. Japan was an imperialistic nation with a warlord leadership that decided to expand it territory to subsume China plus all other Pacific territories, including those owned by the British and U.S., as well as Australia and New Zealand ... they sneak-attacked the U.S. without declaring war in the hope of taking out our Pacific Fleet so we couldn’t defend our own Pacific territories that the Japanese also simultaneously attacked ... they failed ...
