Drug addicts and other criminals are routinely hired as nurses’ aides in nursing homes including veterans’ homes. They’re rough with them and insulting towards them in their presence.

Certified Nurses Aides are some of the most under paid and underappreciated workers in the country.

They are typically over worked and under staffed.

Nursing homes also have high turnover rates for nursing staff. It is hard work for little pay and it is also work that has to be done on night shifts and weekends. If you can get better work you will take it in a heartbeat.

They are one of the most likely workers to suffer injuries on the job (mostly back injuries)

That said if you have a loved one in a nursing home you need to visit them frequently. Check them for injuries. Most of the time the injuries will be from neglect.

As I said before every nursing home I have ever visited was under staffed so neglect is common.

My grandmother was in one of the best nursing homes in our area and it was my brother that found that she had gangrene on her foot. This should never have occurred without the notice of the nursing staff and her attending physician. Gangrene has a pungent sweet smell that anyone should have noticed. She also should have been bathed daily at which time the wound should have been noticed.

I will say it again, a patient in a nursing home needs an intrusive relative that visits frequently. This gives the staff an incentive to treat your loved one well. The staff notices who gets visitors and who does not.

It can’t be said enough. I know; both my parents had to be placed in nursing homes. You would not believe what goes on in these places, even the so called “nice/good” ones.

I also attempted to work in a few of these places and was unable to comply with their so called rules. It’s unbelievable unless you’ve experienced it.

nursing aides make very little money.....people in this country think $12 an hour is a fair wage for someone to wipe the butt of their demented “love” ones....

That's no excuse for their behavior in federal funded facilities for veterans or private facilities.

"They are one of the most likely workers to suffer injuries on the job (mostly back injuries)"

Every one that I've seen could stand to get some exercise to lose over a hundred pounds. Some of them should go through rehab or prison and never be allowed to have any direct contact with patients, clients or customers.
