Some guys I work with all chipped in and bought a tiny bag of the poop coffee and made a small pot. I tried a sip and have to say I didn’t think there was anything real special or different about it.

I’m not sure I could even take a sip of a coffee made from weasel poop. Even an exotic weasel type critter in Indonesia.

There's poop coffee, and then there's poop coffee. I looked it up on Amazon once. Philippine robusta beans was what was being purveyed, not arabica beans.

Robusta beans are used in cheap coffee as well as instant coffee.

So maybe that's what they bought.

Any way, the spin on kopi luwak is that wild civets only eat the ripe cherries, ergo, the beans are at the peak of flavor.

Then add in the ride down the digestive tract...and it's the spoor that bean retrievers go looking for.

Oh, and since the beans draw such a premium, "entrepeneurs" cage the civets, and feed them what the heck cherries are available, ripe, or not so ripe, further devaluing the "product".
