I don't like the fact that this dog is purposely put in harm's way. As a matter of fact, deer bones splinter....so they are a health hazard to the dog. IMO
A large boar came up on our deck last spring; the dogs went wild and almost went through the triple pane slider door to get at him. He didn't like the .45 fired into the ground near his butt.
He was a frequent visitor all summer. Never got into our trash, b/c we keep it closed up in the garage until pick-up day. The town was over run with them; lots of complaints. I heard Maine may be opening their bear season this year, allowing 2 per permit; b/c of overpopulation.
I've seen bear, but not in our yard this spring; trail cam had one back and forth on the edge of our property; he went for the camera and the video of him sniffing the camera is priceless.
Bear meat is delish! Been enjoying steaks; stew and bear stroganof all winter.
That one has been around enough for y’all to have named him!
Saving him for bayah season?
Get bears on my place all the time, had one up on the front deck several nights in a row a couple weeks back.
I don’t shoot them unless they become a danger to my wife or my dogs.
I would turn on the porch light and give the bear about a 3 minute head start, then let the dogs out, you could hear them chasing the damn thing all the way up the mountain.
Bears are a lot faster than the dogs so I didn’t worry to much about them catching him (or her).
In 15 years I have only had to shoot 2 when they got to aggressive, even during the day.
