Layne was burned after she tried to put gasoline on a fire-pit at a friend's house, and the can exploded, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said. Three other people were injured.

One lesson parents need to teach. Don't throw gasoline on a fire site. Bad things happen.

There but for the grace of God go I...

When I was about her age, my friends and I did stupid things; fire and gasoline, fire and starting fluid, whatnot. Experienced the awesome power of fuel without paying the ultimate price doing so. Some kids are lucky. In her case, it sounded like not recklessness but simple absentmindedness. The fire was going out so without thinking, she reached for the can of gasoline to start it back up.
