Prayers for her and her loved ones. May she rest, now.
I burn a lot of brush myself. I never use gasoline. Too volatile. I use kerosene or diesel. Still need to be careful but doesnt flare up like gas will.
it wasnt someone it was her. She poured the gasoline on the fire.
A long (60 min) safety video by Charlie, severely burned, and his recovery.
At ~ 20 min he tells how he prayed for death.
A most compelling story:
This hard hitting video explores the life and the workplace injury of Charlie Morecraft, a refinery worker who nearly lost his life in a refinery explosion. Your employees will see how he went from refinery worker to keynote speaker in safety related issues. ... Charlie Morecraft
Speaking only for myself, if I am ever burned like that, I hope no officious do-gooders decide that they are going to keep me alive no matter what. It's not necessarily a kindness.
Good God. That poor girl. Well, she is unencumbered by her damaged body now.
Never never never never never use gasoline on a fire.
This girls story is so tragic and I have seen it many times.
Prayers.
Very, very sad. Throwing gasoline on a BBQ or a fire is such a common source of major injuries. People don’t realize that the fumes burst into flames immediately, or that the fire can travel right back up the stream (on the vapors) and turn the source into a bomb.
It doesn’t always happen, and in fact it probably doesn’t even happen most times when people do this, but it’s devastating when it does.
Having worked in health care for years *and* having seen a scenario like the one you spell out unfold in my own family I'd strongly advise you to consult an experienced lawyer and have him/her document your wishes in a way that a judge would find clear and compelling.
They probably thought she had a chance and she probably wanted to live. Usually, at this point (2 years later), it’s an infection that kills patients like this, or sometimes a kidney problem.
I knew somebody who worked in a burn unit and she said the thing that was truly strange was that sometimes people would be brought in a second time, after having done the same thing that had ended them up there for years of pain and treatment in the first place. Usually, it was “macho” guys flipping a cigarette into a bucket of gasoline while they were cleaning car parts.
Good knowledge to share about just how dangerous and explosive gasoline can be.
Wow. I watched till he rolled his sleeves up and decided, “Yes, I get it.” He’s a really good speaker.
Hes a really good speaker.
I have watched a seemingly endless blur of safety films, this is the only one I remember.
And yes I was awake through most of them.
My uncle poured charcoal lighter fluid on a fire in a barbecue grill and the fire followed the stream of the fuel back into the can that was still in my uncle’s hand and severely burned his hand. Lesson is never pour a flammable liquid onto a fire.
So many people do not understand that it is gas vapors that burn rather than liquid gas. I use kerosene for my burn piles. Only whatever it is on will ignite.
“NEVER use gasoline under any circumstances. Its too volatile and burns much too quickly.”
Right you are! It’s those properties of gasoline that make it best suited for internal combustion...Gasoline has no other safe use but as a motor fuel...
I often wonder the same thing. Have a (maybe stupid) theory: God takes a lot of good people home early. He lets the bad people stick around longer to give them a chance to redeem themselves. Most fail. He also leaves some good people around longer so they can help others.
I’ve been thinking of her for a while now and even unsuccessfully looked a few weeks ago for some updates.
This is horrible news.
RIP
Scars on my toes to back your “don’t do that!” Poof. Instantly. Kids playing with gasoline and 45 years later, still have the scars. DON’T DO IT!
