It goes further back than Miss Marie and her glasses. As far back as 2000 I remember noticing how many young people suddenly started wearing them, and they really caught on, probably because they were designed to make the wearer look intelligent.

It seems like a lot of these babes are wearing doofus glasses these days. I think they're just for fashion rather than function, trying to make them look smart.
