Mid 70s I had to work on a TTY machine in a shelter several levels under a NY Tel. building. The building held a large switching center and high...very high... corporate officials. Cots, mattresses, water containers (empty) and packaged food. Worked through lunch yet somehow managed to resist the urge to try the “bisquits”. lol

It is an interesting thought problem that if we were to build a comfortable fallout shelter today, how it was to be designed. All sorts of full spectrum lighting except for LED lighting in short use areas. Lots of water and air purification. A large oxygen and food generating greenhouse.
Tons of entertainment media. High efficiency, low fuel use IR heating. Solid state a/c. etc., etc.
