That’s a raw number and is very misleading.
First the population of America has doubled and there are more police per capita today. So an across the board comparison like your chart tells you very little. But even more relevant are things like modern communications, modern emergency medicine, modern EMS capabilities, medical helicopters, bulletproof vests and dozens of other capabilities that help a far higher percentage of injured officers survive.
So what your chart is actually counting is the number of cops who SURVIVE felonious attacks.
A more useful chart would compare the number of cops shot, stabbed, clubbed, badly beaten etc from 1960 to today.
So your chart of cops who survive attacks is actually indicating a far more violent society today because if today’s cops lived in 1960 world, you would see a true death rate of cops.
