A large part of the down-trend in officer deaths since 1960, can be attributed to increased use of protective vests, plus better medical techniques which can save a shot person if he’s gotten to the hospital in time.

NASCAR community unites to honor fallen Mooresville Officer Jordan Sheldon
With several of the sport’s top organizations being based in Mooresville, they’re paying tribute to fallen K-9 Officer Jordan Sheldon with a special decal on their cars.
Two weeks of NASCAR racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway will kick off Friday but many of the teams are racing for more than just the checkered flag.
With several of the sport’s top organizations being based in Mooresville, they’re paying tribute to fallen K-9 Officer Jordan Sheldon with a special decal on their cars.

“This is very special and it’s always great when we see the NASCAR teams doing things to support their neighbors and support their community,” said Scott Cooper with Charlotte Motor Speedway.

One of the teams honoring Sheldon is the Mooresville-based No. 16 of Hattori Racing Enterprises. Their truck will have two decals for Sheldon during Friday’s Camping World Truck Series race.
“It’s important to them,” Cooper said. “Not just the entire NASCAR community, but Mooresville means neighbors for this team.”
And there was very special guest in the garage at the speeday Friday. Mooresville K-9 Ramon, Sheldon’s partner, was roaming through to see his friend’s tribute. He’s even on the side of a few cars alongside Officer Sheldon. For now, Ramon is being cared for by Mooresville K-9 Officer Dan Walther.

Sheldon’s family wants Ramon to keep working — serving the community — and doing what he loves.

Cooper said NASCAR and its teams use their platform to support important causes. Several teams will pay tribute to the victims of the UNC Charlotte shooting during the All-Star Race and Coca-Cola 600 weekends at CMS.
Ryan Repko, a student at UNC Charlotte, also drives a late model stock car in the CARS Tour series. He will be racing at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia Saturday in a special Charlotte Strong car. Repko is raising money for the victims’ families by letting fans “buy laps” during this weekend’s race.

Mooresville Police complete homicide investigation for fallen K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon.

Investigators couldn’t determine a specific motive, but interviews with Michael Aldana’s former girlfriend revealed he’d made comments of killing himself and a police officer in the process.

On Saturday, May 4, Mooresville K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon was conducting a traffic stop on West Plaza Drive when he was shot by the driver. Officer Sheldon died as a result of those injuries.

Michael Yovany Aldana of Mooresville, the driver of the vehicle, was located in a nearby apartment not long after. He was confirmed dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The State Bureau of Investigation and Mooresville Police Department conducted an investigation, which revealed that the traffic stop was on suspicion of a suspended driver’s license. Officer Sheldon called the traffic stop at 10:13 p.m.

After obtaining Aldana’s license and registration, he returned to his patrol vehicle to check Aldana’s information through the national database while Aldana was in his vehicle.

Results confirmed Aldana was driving on a suspended license, and Officer Sheldon approached the vehicle again and spoke with Aldana, who produced additional documentation.

While Officer Sheldon was examining the documents, Aldana fired a semiautomatic handgun at Officer Sheldon, who was struck by the gunfire.

Officials say Aldana then fled the scene, drove to his apartment off Plaza Drive and took his own life.

Investigators could not determine a specific motive for the shooting. However, interviews with Aldana’s former girlfriend revealed he had made recent comments of killing himself and killing a police officer in the process.

“The Mooresville Police Department wishes to thank all of the residents of Mooresville and surrounding communities for their love and support during this overwhelmingly sad time,” said Mooresville Police Chief Damon Williams, according to a statement. “We are so blessed to live in a community that cares about their police department.”

Chief Williams also thanked all the public safety partners and town personnel who assisted.

You're Welcome Mew, Thank You TC.

I know when I heard/read that the girlfriend told the Investigators that was scumbagmurderingperps PLAN why have They not filed Accessory to Murder Charges ???

she's a drug addict as far as I've heard from early info and that's why the Child that scumbag and she had created was Award of the Court to scumbag because of her drug problem...

I think she should be charged and the poor Child (IIRC a 7 year old Boy)that was at the Apartment when scumbag shot himself should get Adopted ASAP with a REAL Family and NOT go to a "care center" or whatever they call them these days so that HOPEFULLY A REAL FAMILY with other older Kids can help the Boy try to deal with the things that His sperm donor did and help Him try to have a semi-normal life if possible.

I'm speculating that the Boy has had a screwed up life so far prior to scumbag Murdering Officer Sheldon and killing himself in the Apartment while the Boy was there and then the SWAT Team bursting into the Apartment probably scaring the rest of the crap out of the poor little Guy.<[> Officer Sheldon's Family and this Poor 7 year old Boy are My biggest concern out of the aftermath of this mess.

That would have been just fine with Me. It never fails that when some POS needs a good Shanking it never happens...

Or slip on a wet floor and fall over a 3 floor railing or down a couple of flights of stairs.

Yep, it’s looking like the POS was a real screwup. 2 DWI’s in 3 months and blaming the Cops because he got busted for it.

At least that’s how I see it.

Fallen officer’s family: He feared for his safety, citing lack of backup "When somebody starts sentences with at family dinner with, ‘If I die in the line of duty,’ that seemed wildly out of character for him and that was alarming to us."

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Six months after the death of Mooresville K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon, WCNC has uncovered new information on what happened that night and major safety concerns leading up to the officer's death.

The concerns paint a picture of a police department equipped with missing or faulty gear and policies that didn't adequately ensure officer safety, which led to concerns Sheldon voiced repeatedly in the weeks and months leading up to his death. And

"Jordan loved being a policeman. He would want other police officers to be safe so that's our whole reason for being here," said his mom, Susan Ledford.

The pain is still raw for the family of Sheldon who was shot and killed in the line of duty May 4, 2019, during a traffic stop.

"He wanted to be a police officer," his sister, Lauren Sheldon, said. "He genuinely wanted to make a difference and he genuinely wanted to help people.”

NBC Charlotte anchor Sarah French sat down with Sheldon's mom, sister, and brother. Each recounted how Sheldon had expressed his fears to them regarding his safety.

"He was a man of few words, and so when he spoke, we lgistened," Susan Ledford said.

She said her son started voicing concerns he had about a year ago.

"Just about every time we got together as a family he voiced concerns," she said.

' Sheldon’s brother, Carson Ledford, said he was not a dramatic person. "When somebody starts sentences with at family dinner with, 'If I die in the line of duty,' that seemed wildly out of character for him and that was alarming to us." Sheldon’s family says his complaints centered primarily around missing or malfunctioning gear and what he says was a glaring oversight of department policy.

"He told us he felt he did not have backup," Lauren Sheldon said.

"That was a fear that he said multiple times," Carson Ledford said. "That he was afraid because he didn't have backup."

In fact, at the time of Sheldon’s death, the Mooresville Police Department did not require two officers be dispatched to each call, which is custom in many departments.

Officer Jordan Sheldon and K9 Ramon

Exclusive: Internal review reveals Mooresville police officers feared for their safety.

The family of Officer Jordan Sheldon was so worried that he testified along with nearly three-quarters of the officers on staff at the Mooresville Police Officer Jordan Sheldon has raised more questions about the safety of the department.

In an exclusive interview with NBC Charlotte anchor Sarah French, Sheldon’s mother, sister, and brother said he was worried about not having appropriate backup along with missing and malfunctioning equipment

“He never complained about anything, so for him to say that, it really put it on our radar,” his mom, Susan Ledford, said.

The family says Sheldon was so worried that he testified along with nearly three-quarters of the officers on staff at the Mooresville Police Department as part of an investigation that began in February sparked by complaints of a hostile work environment.

“He wasn't sure how it would be received, but he knew it was the right thing to do,” sister Lauren Sheldon said.

“I think it speaks of the culture then. Why they felt the need to go down there,” Interim Mooresville Police Chief Ron Campurciani said.

Campurciani has been reviewing the department since chief Damon Williams was suspended with pay in June, one month after Sheldon's death. Campurciani couldn't comment on the investigation but admits there were multiple issues.

“When I came down here it was clear that the structure of the police department, the command structure set up wasn't working,” Campurciani said.

The family has been requesting Sheldon’s testimony transcript from that investigation since August. As soon as NBC Charlotte started asking for answers, the family was told Susan Ledford could come in and view the transcript. However, they cannot have a copy.

Mooresville's town attorney told NBC Charlotte in an email, "Since the document constitutes confidential personnel information, the town is prohibited from releasing it."

“I think when he gave that interview he thought something would be done about all of these issues,” Susan Ledford said. “I think he thought all of this would be corrected.”

NBC Charlotte obtained testimony from other Mooresville police officers. One stated, "Many of these issues cause me great concern when it comes to my personal safety, especially the department failure to train and failure to provide equipment that works."

Another officer's testimony stated, "This agency needs help. I am not the only one that fears for my safety."

“It was just like the perfect storm. Bad storm. Where everything seemed to happen at once,” Campurciani said.

He has already changed department policy regarding backup. It’s now required that two officers are dispatched to each call. He expects there will be more changes to come

When asked if the Sheldon family felt like their concerns were heard, Lauren Sheldon responded, “I think we would like an investigation into what happened within the department that night. What could be changed, what could they learn from this incident.”

“We don't know that Jordan would be here if all of that was fixed,” Susan Ledford said. “All of this still might have happened.”

“Police officers already have a notoriously dangerous job and they shouldn't have this worry from their own department that they may not have what they need or it may not work correctly,” brother Carson Ledford said.

You’re Welcome. I had no idea that things were that messed up here. We found out about LOTS of things during this Election. Like the mayor is in the “good ‘ol boy” network, keeping the Citizens out of most of the loops. Mooresville and Davidson own Continuum TV,NET & Phone and have for years, like since 2007. They have taken a loss every year they’ve owned it. Paid $80,000,000.00 for it and now it’s looking like it will be sold to TDS Communications for $80,000,000.00 and pay it off supposedly leaving $45,000,000.00 or so. Allegedly the remaining $$$ will go to Public Service’s, Fire, EMS, PD, Parks & Rec. and “other” Infrastructure.

And Wednesday it was announced that they have started a deal with a Firm to draw up Blueprints, All the other Paperwork and come up with a Guaranteed Price to build a New Police Station for $1.91 Million. The way it is worded in the snewz paper the $1.91 Million ONLY GETS the Blueprints and such but NOT THE ACTUAL BUILDING OF THE STATION !!! so that’s probably going to be $20 - 45 Million (just guessing) so this is going to be a mess IMHO.
