Could be....I think 1080 doesn’t break down so whatever comes to eat the cat will die as well, such as hawks or vultures. I guess there is a cost /benefit factor to consider.
If they are doing it to try to save grass keets then fewer hawks could help them, too. But then there might be more rodents as a result, and they will feast on keet eggs.
Not only does 1080 break down, but the poison does not affect indigenous animals. Local plants actually make the poison and the locals are immune to it. The 1080 used as poison is synthetically manufactured.
Hawks will not eat dead stuff that they did not kill .... might get the vultures though.
