I’m thinking, how hard could it be to investigate this?

The President asks SocSec Admin to get a list of SSNs that are being used at different companies, simultaneously. Easy, I think. SSN is being used by one person working at Taco Bell, another person working construction, another person working at Applebee’s, another person working for a landscaper, another person working at a meat processing plant. Have SocSec Investigators[they have their own, armed investigators] show up to each place on a Tuesday and ask to interview that person. And have him/her produce their SS card. EZ-PZ. Business doesn’t even have to get in trouble, the first time, but they are encouraged to take part in the EVerify program.

Take each of them into custody for fraud, Identity theft and a quick flight out of the country. You’ll see folks dropping like flies once a few of these stories start getting around.

One potential flaw in your plan... I’m not sure how many people actually carry around their SS card with them.

I only take mine out if I need to apply for a job or get a new ID or something like that.

Not only that, but a lot of the SSN thiefs like to go for young kids - they won't be working for years, so there's less chance of a red flag when someone files their taxes and the IRS thinks they already did. I'm sure it would be VERY easy for SS admin to give them an additional list of every SSN that's showing income, when the SSN is under working age. Every single one under 14 is almost definitely an illegal, and every one 14-16 shouldn't be very high. Most teenagers don't generally make more than several thousand in any given year, at least until they graduate HS.
