Gmail was updated to look differently a while back and I really liked the old setup.
Is it something they feel they need to do, change things and shake things up every now an then even if nothing is wrong and everyone is happy?
I don’t get it.
I had something similar happen with an iphone upgrade.
Absolutely hated it. Huge waste of my time.
Did not want it.
I had a rental property where I keep one room for visiting family and myself when doing work on the house. I had a new renter who was a real neat freak. He decided I had too many wires in the alley behind his back door, so decided to remove everything that was not connected to his apartment or clearly electrical. Result was he eliminated my land line connection on two floors, which works even when the electrical service is out. Phone people said I cannot get a land line back, so had to convert to Fios and other stuff that I did not want. Took hours and hours of calls and several days of having to go to that house to admit phone employees. Then the guy move out and wanted $200 back even though buying battery backup in case of electrical failure and all the other time I spent was far more than $200, not to mention that at age 80 I liked the security of 100% usable phone power even with power loss. GRRRRRRR!!!

I am also furious with Yahoo. They keep making changes, none of which I see as an improvement, and I have lost several useful properties. The most recent was putting a big fat first initial to the right of email text, so if I want to copy what was sent, it ends up being twice the number of pages. Now I forward anything I want to copy to AOL and save on printer ink and paper.
A few months ago, Gmail became far more intricate and detailed. I sure didn’t ask for it. I never had any choice.
It used to be when I answer an email, my reply is sent, and the original email stays on the main email page until I delete it myself.
Now, when I reply to an email, it disappears from Incoming and is immediately sucked away into something called ‘Archives’.
I never wanted, asked for or needed to ‘Archive’ my emails.
Now, I have to go looking for it in Sent, Drafts, Trash, Spam, Snoozed....etc, until I find it. IF I find it. Sometimes I have to give up for the day and move on w/o that particular email.
I have searched for a way to remove any Archive aspects.
Either there is no way to remove it, or they won’t clearly tell you. Of course there is no ‘person’ you can ask for advice, only Q&A postings. Yet another minor annoyance.

Dont have time to run and get another phone but, I may pitch this at 95 miles into a wall just to motivate me, like I did the last one...

The point is, I made all the comparisons to other phones and styled on this POS because I like the features for the cost

Yeah, I agree the new icons look like they are designed for 2 year olds.
Everything else about the upgrade is good, however.

What phone people told you you couldn’t get a land line?
The Freemium stuff I expect them to change and I have recourse but they essentially took my brand new car, hardware I own and changed the color of the seats to suit the taste of a preteen
Oh, and the Bixby button is like putting the brake pedal two inches closer to the gas...not great at all, since I hate Bixby anyway
Now that I think of it I had the Galaxy J7 and wasn’t really dissatisfied with it all.
I only wanted wireless charging...
