It would probably help by renaming hot dogs cool dogs. A cool dog the diameter of a pencil might do the trick and save us from doom.
Nathan's has already implements a partial solution of this type. They've reduced the size of the hot dogs (and the weight in the package to 12 oz) and still charge the same or greater than they did when you got a pound in the package. I find this stealth price increase especially disgusting.
