SCC metastasizes by direct extension. We elderly should get a ‘skin check’ yearly, at the very least. I had one on my hand. Luckily it hadn’t moved on. Your hands and your face are ALWAYS in the sun. Be vigilant.

Yes - I am rather fair skinned, as is one of my brothers who had a bout with skin cancer from excessive outdoor exposure / many burns. He “only” lost an ear.
When my wife went to Philippines, last time, I had her bring me back the widest dang hat she could find. I still need to put a string on it, as it blows off easily. But, it’s great in rain or sun.
