I finally broke down and watched it a couple months ago to see why it was so acclaimed. I knew he won an Oscar for it and I kept thinking “isn’t this how he acts in real life?” Maybe not when it was made but now. When it was over even I was depressed.
Good thinking ... that makes everything a tax-deductible business expense.
Many former active drunks if they just clean up their act, albeit it a tricky, risky and confusing task, but if they get past it and get solidly sober for a long period and preferably the rest of their lives, have great lives. In many cases, probably far better than they would have had, had booze not forced them to confront and overcome some of the deepest human questions / fears etc.
Not that I would know anything about this subject :-)
But that movie was as depressing as a drunk story gets ... but ... I would wager that the booze was not the cause of that characters problems, it was just a symptom that accelerated and dramatized that plane's descent into a fiery explosion.
