3 things that keep them afloat -

Bundling and cable fees pay for everyone and CNN has a much better deal than their ratings deserve - you want to hurt CNN and MSNBC? Cut the cord.

Liberal activist corporations continue to advertise on CNN in a big way - they put their activism above effectiveness. Pay for “Progressive Insurance” and you fund the left because they do! We don’t vote with our wallet enough.

Airports - they get a boost although some are steering away from CNN now based on my recent travel so that may have started cracking. True fact - their obsession with airline crashes hurt them badly at airports because the last thing airports want on television is non-stop speculation about Malaysian airline crashes. Sad event, but slightly amusing side effect.
