Imo, that’s exactly what the guy was saying. It was a setup by Trump all along with him playing his part as the dupe just to keep the opfor (opposing forces) miscued as to his true intentions.

Perhaps my information re Cates is out of date - he used to be adamant in advocating that RR was a white hat, possibly Mueller too, so when I saw this I assumed that Cates was still saying they are white hats. I gotta read more. :)
You could have it correct and me wrong.
But the way I read him had him saying Trump set the whole thing up from the start.
Now, also just imo, that doesn’t make either RR or Mule white hats. It might make them turned and managed black hats trying real hard to buy themselves out of the hangmans’ noose.
I think that might be the case because Trump didn’t come in blind to this whole mess. He had a real good read on what was going on from the day Rogers had his meet.
