The Shot Heard 'Round the World: Lessons for today from Lexington and Concord
YouTube ^ | Apr 19, 2019 | Reid Henrichs

Posted on 04/19/2019 3:05:09 PM PDT by real saxophonist

In this historical and educational video, Reid describes the moment the American Revolution began and its causes. Teaching the youth is a crucial part of our nation's history, and without doing so, we will slide into chaos, destruction, and ruin. The battles of Lexington and Concord were world-changing events. Our ancestors possessed skill, courage, and purpose of action. We need to emulate them and their ways.

The fact that Colonists would
Stand up against the
British Army is a study in itself.

The obvious point they always ignore is that the revolution started over gun control. What were the British marching to Lexington and Concord for? They were going to seize the armories with ammunition and weapons.

Above is a really interesting paper on the start of the Colonial militia. Prior to the shot heard round the world, the British Regulars had gone to this same area and confiscated the gun powder stored in the town for the local militia group. A group loyal to the British - used for fending off indians primarily.

After the regulars took the powder, the militia held a meeting and disbanded the group. Then immediately re-formed the group as a colonial militia - using the same members! They came up with new training, new ideas (the term Minutemen came about here). IIRC - not all of the members had to be “minutemen” - they were special guys to get the word out. Paul Revere was a minuteman.

The first Continental Congress was going on at the time and heard of this new group and the new rules (every able man had to be in the group, have a certain amount of powder and balls, etc.) Men that could not afford a gun were provided one. Anyway - the congress heard this and urged other colonies to support this militia and also to start their own.

I took this picture back in 2010...it was a bitter, cold, February day. Windy, dry as a bone, the kind of cold that makes your eyes water...Nobody there but me.

I dare anyone to walk on Lexington Green, and stand there for a minimum of ten minutes....holding a long gun.

Ten minutes is because if the cops are at Dunkies, it will take them a minute to get to his car.

Am I misremembering things again as I am wont to do? I thought the shot heard around the world was the assassination of the Arch Duke Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne.

It’s been used in reference to both events over the years.

No, it was Bobby Thompsons homerun. Lexington Concord was the original shot heard round the world.

You really feel the history there...of course, there were no trees anywhere near there when that took place...:)

And if you were seen today carrying a shouldered modern militia rifle across it, the police would come and arrest you.

It’s sad what has become of the cradle of the Revolution.
