I have observed just the opposite.
While there are individual variations, many times men fall for a stupid scheme, because the sales person plays up to his ego.
Women frequently are less gullible.

You are right. The triggers are different, but they are there.
The PUA game is effective because it goes after basic female psychology. Sport’s cars do the same for many guys.
The trick is to stop and step back and see what is pushing you a direction. Most can’t do that.
Different situations. To generalize crudely: guys want to make a buck and are more likely to fall for get-rich quick schemes, and chicks are looking for community and belonging and are more likely to join a cult. They both can be bargain hunters, but guys want what the other guys don’t have, and women want to pay less.
