I’ve never met a TENURED public school teacher in NJ who left the field before retirement; they may transfer out of the urban sh!thole districts to nicer ones, but that happens early (before they near 6-figure salaries) or it doesn’t happen at all. I suspect that with seniority, they also get some say in their assignments - so new teachers are sent to the worst classrooms.
There is simply no way someone under 50 is walking away from a job pulling in $100K for 180 part-time days of work, with summers off and guaranteed employment for life. It just doesn’t happen - though it may in states where public school teachers aren’t the upper middle class.
in Wash. state a stinking rat judge basically forced the state to change the way it taxes for schools...the immediate result was astronomical raises for the teachers....
public was assured that even with these increases, our tax burden would not be increased very much, because other taxes would be reduced....
you guessed it...
now the school districts are "poor" because that one little tax was eliminated....
a WEEK full of crying stories on the front page about how now there's going to be LAYOFFS and you know everybody and their brother can suffer layoffs but its only the teachers that get front page coverage....
sick of their crap...really am...especially when they allow a girl to be beaten in class and do nothing about it...
