For what it’s worth, I actually could tolerate Jar-Jar a lot more than I can the Ewoks. I mean, yeah, sure, the character was painfully unfunny, he comes across as annoying at times, and there’s evidence to suggest that Lucas envisioned him as a failed copy of Kefka Palazzo from Final Fantasy VI. But on the other hand, at least Jar-Jar didn’t base him on something like the Vietcong with the intention of singing praises to them.
Besides, he’s still better written than most of the cast in the Sequel trilogy.
Something is wrong with Lucas.
I’m a bit hesitant to say it backfired on Lucas, TBH, especially given the miseducation of our youth for quite some time (the same youth he made the films for as a matter of fact). Even back then, the youth thought Ho Chi Minh was the Vietnamese equivalent of George Washington or at least Thomas Jefferson thanks to his ripping off the latter’s Declaration of Independence. And don’t get me started on how right now, people are thinking that the French Revolution is no different from the American War for Independence despite their being as different as night and day from even a casual glance, let alone a full-blown, in-depth analysis. Heck, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker pulled something similar, where they had MSF soldiers basically making pro-second amendment statements, and Big Boss even had a statement against Immanuel Kant’s On Perpetual Peace, and yet, the game has Big Boss and Kazuhira Miller singing praises for Che Guevara and also aiding the FSLN while implicitly agreeing with their revolution. Bear in mind that MGS2 heavily implied that Big Boss was comparable to George Washington (certainly his clone son Solidus tried to use both as his inspiration for his plans). And get this: In Japan at least, Peace Walker WAS marketed to kids.
If anything, I fear he may have been successful.
My time I realized he was scum was when he bragged about the Ewoks being the Vietcong and the Empire was America. Made even worse when development notes indicated the Rebels shared the same inspiration as the Ewoks. Maybe also his having Obi-Wan give a nihilistic remark to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.
Too bad their characters weren’t much better.
Yeah, I heard, and that’s exactly the reason I no longer root for the Rebels, and if anything root for the Empire (no one tricks me into rooting for communists and gets away with it). To make matters worse, this actually IS in his development notes from the start, unlike his similar claims about how Greedo always shot first, or how he always envisioned Vader as being Luke’s father.
And as far as the moment, well, it’s not a movie (unless you count the banquet at the end of ROTJ), but the book Children of the Jedi DID have the Rebels essentially committing Red October or the September Massacres on the Imperial Palace staff based on Leia’s recollection here: https://i.redd.it/n33r15e8tbg01.jpg
I like Natalie Portman but she really sucked as Padme.
The Farting Menace! We’ve all known more than one!
Addendum: Actually, you think that’s revelation in itself is bad? Wait till you see his time on James Cameron’s AMC sci-fi retrospective series. Not only does he reiterate his claims about the VC inspiring the Rebel Alliance, but he also implies that he used them as the inspiration knowing full well at the time that they were indeed a terrorist organization. You can find it literally midway through this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fv9Jq_mCJEo
Think you can quote specific portions of the book showing that he had screws loose? Or at the very least give the title of the book so I can find out myself?
He just likes messing with folks.

She talks about how George didn’t want her to wear underware, because no one wears underware in space.
“Wishful Drinking” by Carrie Fisher. Kind of sad book
#52 I wondered why she was bouncing around in space. I thought the gravity plates were not adjusted properly....
I recognize that cover from my local library.
And yeah, I heard about that story. And how would he know that people don’t wear underwear in Space? They technically do, if you count that bodysuit as such. And besides, technically, no one walks around in space either, yet that never stopped them from walking around in Space without there even being any implied magnetic footwear.
So, wait, based on the blurb from the book about how she was the byproduct of “Hollywood in-breeding”, does that mean she was a byproduct of incest? If so, then... ouch, no wonder she had issues.
Read the book
She had a LOT of issues that started with her parents.
Sad story really. Glad I didn’t know that when I had her on a poster on my wall. Granted, I probably wouldn’t have noticed.
