First World Climate Conference 1979 The first World Climate Conference was held in Geneva in 1979, convened by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The main focus of the Conference was global warming and how it could affect human activity. The Conference issued a statement which called upon world governments to foresee and to prevent potential man-made changes in climate that might be adverse to the wellbeing of humanity. Likewise, the World Climate Programme (WCP) was established under the joint responsibility of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Council for Science (ICSU).
In 1988, the WMO and UNEP created the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), whose initial task was to prepare a comprehensive review and recommendations with respect to the state of knowledge of the science of climate change; social and economic impact of climate change, possible response strategies.

Hard to believe we made it huh! What with ‘see uh O 2’ being up around 2 bazillion ppm and all. Oceans 2,000 feet higher than back in ‘79. We should count our blessings.
where is this underwater city I was supposed to live in because by 2001 some idiot there said we will completely be submerged?
I would have thought by now the average temperature on earth would be 2,000 degrees F.
Yup. Its already 2000 degrees and the only reason not everyone burned up is a lot of people were already dead from the club of Rome global famines.
The media is vile and their followers are dumber than sheep.
I’d be interested in finding out what predictions were made and any of them came true. There should be records. And if any were wrong, then they should forced to explain why.
Geneva, February 1979
Enjoy!
At the end of the second week of deliberations in a smaller group of 100 invited experts from all parts of the world, the organizers issued a World Climate Conference Declaration as an appeal to nations in the following terms:
A History of Climate Activities
Having regard to the all-pervading influence of climate on human society and on many fields of human activities and endeavour, the Conference finds that it is now urgently necessary for the nations of the world:
(a) To take full advantage of mans [sic] present knowledge of climate;
(b) To take steps to improve significantly that knowledge;
(c) To foresee and prevent potential man-made changes in climate that might be adverse to the well-being of humanity.
And to think, the brutal fall and winter of 1976-77 was used as proof we were entering a New Ice Age!
In 1978 we were still on the cusp of the Next Ice Age, amazing how things change!!
Theme: Wow - we scientists have a chance to really cash in on this non-emergency.
or... Yes, I need a Porsche.
Thanks.
Not much in predictions.
Nope. It hadn’t turned into a career and big money machine for tens of thousands of true believers yet. Hysterically screaming “the sky is falling” didn’t have a payoff back then.
