I haven't been in maybe 30 years, and it's only a 3-hour drive for me.
When I first heard of this proposed interstate in the 80s my first thought was “why? The only purpose it could serve is to bring down cars from Detroit and hitmen.” I still believe that.
Myrtle Beach is a prime example of the rule that, when an area has some attraction that makes people want to go there the flow will increase until ultimately the people destroy what drew them there in the first place. I have lived my entire life except for maybe five years total within 120 miles and the past 47 years within 70 miles and for years I went to Myrtle Beach air base at least once a week as a tech rep. I have zero desire to go there now. Of course I’m an old man now but I don’t think I would want to go if I were young again.
