Nothing like forming a conclusion before you’ve even begun to investigate...
I hope and pray it is so.
The worst that could happen would be for the roof, composed of massive timbers supporting tons of slate shingles, to fall on to the ancient vaulting of the cathedral causing it to collapse to the floor below. The force of such a failure would blow out many if not all of the windows in the cathedral as well as destroying everything crushed by that stonework.
Nelson DeMille provided a vivid depiction of such a terrorist (IRA) attack on St. Patrick's Cathedral in his early '80s novel Cathedral...and St. Patrick's vaulting is plaster!
