[AMC Pacer]
I actually rode in one in 1976 or so. Neighbors had rented it while their car was in the body show. It was that bland tan color with the fake woodgrain (IIRC). The color is right for sure.
Anyways, yes, it was pretty much like riding in a fishbowl on wheels.
My driving class in high school had AMC Matadors on loan from a local dealer.
When the last group got assigned, 5 of us had not joined any group. I got the three cutest girls in my class in my group. We had a lot of fun. One of the coaches, of course, was the driving instructor.
Not that I want to sound like the typical shallow guy or anything.....LOL
LOL! I went out on a date once with a guy who owned one of these, and yes, I felt like I was riding in a fishbowl.
Decades ago, a good friend retired from the foreign service and moved back to California. They had limo service at every embassy. So, they didn’t own any cars except a Ford Victoria they had while stationed in DD. They kept that vehicle in storage when they went over seas.
Also, they had two teenage daughters from hell and a son approaching that age group.
Each teen wanted their own car. His BIL suggested that he buy two ugly Pacers that the teens would drive if the parents didn’t need them.
They bought the mung brown Pacer and puke yellow Pacer. The kids refused to drive the Pacers. If they were driven to school, the kids wanted to be dropped off a couple of blocks away.
Besides being embarassed with an old person’s Victoria. They had to pay for the gas they used. The Dad would fill it back up the next day and deduct the cost from the driver’s allowance.
