Thanks everyone. It finally got resolved.
Apparently a second account, which is linked to the one with the problems, also had its own problem. The second account problem caused me to be locked out of the first/main account. But of course the screen never gave any indication of this issue. All it gave was a generic error message “online banking is unavailable.”
Finally a support person recognized the error message and fixed things.
