Jordan Peterson spoke at a Heritage Foundation event in New York City. We discussed the rise of socialism in America, the importance of personal responsibility, and why his message is resonating with so many people. Peterson is a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, a clinical psychologist, and author of the book 12 Rules for Life. A lightly edited transcript is below, or you can listen to the interview on The Heritage Events Podcast.

1) Laziness
2) Envy
3) Anger at capitalist institutions behaving like buttheads
4) Utopian immaturity
5) It’s hip and cool, want to be with the “in” crowd.
Its basic human nature to seek to do nothing.
So of course most people think socialism sounds good when they first hear about it, the thought that they could sit around and do nothing and have someone take care of them (the government) is very appealing. Like a lifetime of being retired without earning it.
Humans seem to have a desire to see those who they consider better off than they are to be taken down a peg.
thats what we tell young people. Oh, youre OK the way you are. Theres nothing worse you can tell someone whos young than that, especially if theyre miserable.
Lots of them, if theyre miserable and aimless, its like, Oh, Im miserable and aimless and sometimes Im suicidal and Im nihilistic and I dont have any direction in my life. Its like, Well, youre OK the way you are. Its like they dont want to hear that. They want to hear, Youre useless. You know nothing, you havent got started. Youve got 60 years to put yourself together and God only knows what you could become.
But I was never told specifically what, so I tried to do better in everything.
“You can do better than this” is a hate message in todays world but say it anyway... ..
Everyone should watch it.
46 minutes you would probably just waste anyway.
This part is worth the price of admission "We all know that: it is better to live courageously then cowardly, better to live truthfully than in deceit "

OUTSTANDING post. Thanks. HOORAY Jordan Peterson.
The best challenge I've ever seen. It's not about "the best" or somebody else's best. It's about one's own best.

What I think you mean by Utopian immaturity is not understanding that Utopia and Dystopia are synonyms not antonyms.
You can do better than this.
The problem is today is better is define as protesting or talking instead of doing. They want virtue on the cheap. If you want a zero admissions car, build one. If you want to eliminate using fossil fuels. Then don’t you use them.
Free stuff. Period.
Add greed wantung others to oay for your stuff stupidity not kearning wgat happened to the ussr venesuela north korea cuba zimbabwe and a host of other sh!tholes
