I hunted until about ten years ago, when I turned 70.

My Dad taught to me be licensed and only kill what was in season.

Then, you had to field dress it and finish the butchering at home. Then you shared the blessing with family and friends.

Our sons are like you and I. Grand kids are the same.

I have taught firearms safety and hunting ethics to youth and adults for over three decades. I’m heavy on the ethics part. Modern hunting is not about the killing, it is about harvesting excess wildlife while following a set of well stated rules.

BUT...

Prior to buying that first hunting license you must fully understand firearms safety, and that there is no excuse for unethical hunters.

Every one of my students are mandated to memorize one statement, and that is.

Having personal ethics means doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
