“Started get calls in which caller id should MY phone number and Directory listing. Called may times......”Claim IP address was compromised.”

No. The caller is using VOIP - making calls via the Internet using Apps like Skype of devices like Magic Jack.

Using VOIP and with a little tech knowledge the VOIP caller can “spoof” the number being called from and the caller ID to be litterally anyhting they want to make up. Inside the Internet the Internet does not care, and by the time the call gets to the landline or cell phone system the fact that that number was spoofed is not known.

If you got a call that indicated the call was from you at your own-same number (as if you were calling yourself), the “called from” info was definitely spoofed using VOIP with a call that orginated from the Internet.

I am not sure we can clean up this mess unles VOIP is killed or its protocols are revised GLOBALLY.

I’ve periodically gotten phone messages saying that if I didn’t call them back immediately, they will proceed to have me arrested. And it’s always some digitally created female voice on the message. I’ve also gotten calls claiming to be from Microsoft, and that there is a problem with my computer. I yell at them, and tell them I don’t own or use any Microsoft products, so why the F are they calling me? I’ve been an Apple user for many years.

ATT was calling me twice a day to sell me cable. I finally told the caller that my only connection with ATT was this land line and it is a convenience not a necessity and that if I got so much as one more call from ATT for any reason I would terminate the land line which I have had for 40 years. I’ve not heard from ATT since.
