The Los Angeles Police Department has moved to cancel most of the few remaining concealed weapons permits in civilian hands, according to new filings in a decades-old legal case.
Chief Michel Moore said in a sworn declaration he did not believe a group of people who obtained so-called CCWs as the result of a 1994 lawsuit were still entitled to the permits, because it was unlikely the individuals still faced extraordinary physical danger to their lives.
"I do not believe the continued wholesale allowance for each to possess a CCW license based on circumstances that may have existed 24 years ago is in the best interest of the public," Moore said.

Additionally, Moore said the crime rate is down and there are more police officers on the streets, so the level of danger to an average person has been reduced.
"Technology has improved tremendously in the last 24 years which has enabled individuals to instantly communicate with law enforcement via cellphones from anywhere and at any time should they feel threatened," Moore said.

The ONION . . . right? Gotta be. No one can be a government employee in law enforcement and truly believe this stuff . . . can they?
“Not from criminals, not from home invasions, not from the guy who tried to snatch my 13 year old daughter in a department store, not even the wonderful LAPD when they decide youre the suspect.”
Think South Africa. That’s where we’re going. We’re headed for a peaceful, vibrant Chocolate world with great restaurants. Kind of a Wakanda on steroids.
Our cats don’t seem to care much for shooting, even air guns.
Why are police officers armed when they could be issued a gun when a situation arises that requires one?

And more to the point, what about guards of the elite? Do they REALLY need their guns?
I remember that show, but never watched it.
*** Half of an episode of Quincy was him yelling at people. ***
Oscar Madison went into the Witness Protection Program and
became a Coroner.

Of course they do.
They face violent seizure of lawfully & peacefully possessed items by an oppressive government.
If everyone would play nice, LA wouldn’t need a PD or personal protection.
And to escape alimony payments.
I would say that by definition, anyone living in LA is in extraordinary danger. Really any large city in the US.
Yes, what is the average, maximum, and minimum police response times? Are they faster than a private citizen pulling out a gun and directly defending themselves?
A CCW license is good state wide. That means that a CCW issued by some other jurisdiction will still be valid in LA.
I question how we can continue as a single nation when, simultaneously, some states are outlawing abortion at the sign of a heartbeat (GA) and others are allowing abortion up to the time (and perhaps a wee bit later) of birth (VA). Kentucky just passed Constitutional carry and L.A. county wants to purge the few CCWs that have been issued.
any more - how many more, sheesh
The city could save money by disarming the police. It they ever felt threatened, then they could instantly communicate with a special armed unit via cellphone.
Maybe not enough
Moore should be subject to the second amendment solution. BANG!
If they aspire to any sort of leadership position in a progressive-dominated city they must at least pretend to believe it!
This is just waiting for a lawsuit to overturn this nonsense
What about all of the guns in the hands of those poor ILLEGALS? Surely you will confiscate those? Yes?
