The world is full of strange things. It probably helps that the youth of today waste their time indoors rather than looking for things to do outdoors so that it only needs to worry about such four footed varmints as can be found in town.
I think that in my day, the sheep would have been subject to repeated capture by boys between the ages of 10 and 17 just because it seemed like something to do—and at some point somebody would have come up with an idea to do something other than catch and release.
Or maybe I’ve been hanging out with the lads in the backwoods of Canada for too long.

I saw a story book in Latin some years back about a wolf who made friends with a pig, and then the pig and the wolf run into a bear who asks the wolf if the pig is his dinner; the wold replies the pig is my friend. And the bear responds, no the pig may be your dinner or he may be my dinner, but he is not a friend. The pig is dinner. The story probably nominally came to a different conclusion, but in the end the bear was right.
An animal that is headed north of 500 pounds is not an appropriate pet unless one has the facilities to house the animal appropriately—which they did not. A pet is not a family member. When people encounter weird situations, they should be cut some slack if they do weird things. These are premises that I hold, you are free to agree or disagree with them. If you disagree with them, we will come to different conclusions. If I was interested in arguing, we could debate the premises. But I’m not. I have snow to shovel so I can get to Church. I can’t wait for May.

Puts me in mind of the old joke about a lumber camp. All of the Lumberjacks are dragging ass at the end of the day, but when they get back to camp, they all run for the sheep pen. A new guy observes that there shouldn’t be any rush, as there are a lot more sheep than men, and the foreman tells him “Yeah, but nobody wants to get an ugly one”. This is one ugly sheep.

The overall gist of the article and articles relating to Princess was the quickness of the person who was entrusted by the sheriff/deputy in deciding to slaughter the pig.
I relayed the article to my beloved and his belief is that the person who slaughtered the pig was intending to do that from the beginning and merely needed the time to do so.
He’s hoping they throw the book at the idiot.
Forget that fact the pig was a pet. It could have been owned for siring or for market. The idiot basically destroyed property.
My beloved is hoping they can also throw in a few health violations. Me? I’m hoping he ends up doing a bit of time in the local jail.
Now, that said, I am tending an apology. I let my shock, dismay, and utter disgust at some of the FReepers’ replies shape my reply. I ought not to have allowed the comments to cause me to be so sharp. I am truly sorry for that anger.

I’m touched. I think in 14 years, that is the first apology I’ve been offered, and one of the first I’ve ever seen. Of course, I spend the bulk of my time on religion forum threads. While one may have one’s eternal salvation and relationship with God called into question, I don’t believe I’ve ever been called city bred before. I imagine that it gave gundog (who hails from my home county) a chuckle.
The situation is certainly one that is complex, which does tend at times toward shillelagh law. But I’m not sure about introducing the civilities of apologies to FR.
Still, I am touched, and provided it does not go against the rules for FR, will heartily accept it.
While I could see how my comment about the lads in my part of the backwoods of Canada might put you in mind of that joke (and a fine joke it is), don’t you be getting and ideas of that sort about the lads up here.
The land in this area, for purposes of animal husbandry, does compare favourably to Greenland (but certainly not to Green Acres). Still, over-wintering domestic animals is a challenge—and so domestic livestock is easily outnumbered by the deer, likely by the moose, and probably by the bears and the wolves combined, and possibly as categories of themselves. The livestock, such as it is, tends to be closely held and locked up for much of the year. There is not much occasion to encounter sheep, and even for Canadian lads, pursuing the wild animals for any purpose other than determining ranking on the food chain is a bit much.
In the words of the immortal Mr. Kotsovos, I believe quoting any number of locals, “We aren’t (purported negative characteristic), we can’t be, because there aren’t any of them around here.”

Let me assure you, that as I attempted to rest last evening all that would flow through to my soul was a picture of the particular type of fleshy-anger that I experienced and it wasn’t a pretty sight to view within the soul.
It was with great relief I posted my ping to you. There is nothing quite like the Holy Spirit showing a person their failings and how it may affect others. And the relief granted once the failing/sin is acknowledged is immense and worth putting aside the false pride.
