Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) engaged in what observers considered hyperbole
when he stated at a recent hearing: “73,000 American troops landed in the
D-Day invasion. We have 76,103 – according to my numbers – apprehensions
along our southern border last month. We have D-Day every month on our
southern border.” The number of apprehensions in February was about 66,000.
Still, the D-Day analogy only makes sense if in June 1944 American troops
had landed on the beaches of Normandy and then immediately surrendered to
German soldiers and requested asylum for themselves and warm blankets for
their children.
